Of the fifty or so Liberty Bell replicas sent across the country, two were sent to Pennsylvania. One was placed in Philadelphia, and the other was sent to Allentown. The first bell in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was made in the year 1775. German Lutheran congregations in the area donated the church to serve as a hiding place for the eleven bells during the Revolutionary War. The bell, which is referred to as the Liberty Bell, was placed in a church building in 1778. The bell remained there until 1785, but after the British occupied Philadelphia, the bell was placed in storage at Zion’s Reformed Church.

The museum’s long-term future is uncertain, however. The church recently voted to put its building on Hamilton Street up for sale.
